RL Grime - Shrine (instrumental)
background
date: 03/2020
this is a class project that is composed of only three cues on a piece of two-minute clip music.
this song gives an imagination of growth and evolution. the pace changes gradually from calm and slow to upbeat and fast which implies the urge to express the inner energy from within.
process
the beginning of a low-intensity look sets up a soft, calm mood that allows the audience to feel the surroundings.
towards the middle of the piece, the tempo gradually goes faster. the lights crossfade to brighter lighting that builds up the energy along with the music. a focus area is being lit to draw the audience to focus on the model. more colors and higher saturation are introduced to create a lively and upbeat feeling that contrast to the beginning.
at the climax, there is a quick shift of colors from colder to warmer colors as to create an environment of a full release of energy.
challenges
the music has different tempo changes in a very short time while having three cues limited the number of looks that can be created. however, because there are only three cues, it allows me to carefully plan and think deeply about when and where the next cue should be and how to utilize the limited changes for a maximum outcome to design for this music.
